Comprehensive clinical diagnostic assessments for children ages 3 to 18 years
with complex developmental and behavioural conditions
.

We believe that children and families thrive best in a strengths-based environment. Families are at the centre of services and supports are collaborative, culturally sensitive, individualized and flexible. We are trauma-informed and attachment-based.

What we do

The Heartwood House Child Assessment Team offers clinical diagnostic assessments of children with complex developmental and behavioural conditions and experiences of trauma.

Services include psychology, pediatric, speech and language, and occupational therapy assessments with a focus on neurodevelopment and complex trauma.  This includes multidisciplinary (psychology and pediatric) assessments of complex developmental and behavioural conditions (CDBC) such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders.  In addition, our team provides individual discipline assessments for other challenges such as intellectual and other learning disabilities, language disorders, motor-based disabilities, sensory regulation and processing difficulties, and severe and complex behaviour issues.

Assessments include a comprehensive evaluation of the child’s specific risk and protective factors, strengths and functional difficulties; clinical diagnoses; tailored expert recommendations; completion of funding and service eligibility forms; and referrals to intervention programs within The Children’s Foundation and the community.

You can expect

  • A non-judgmental, compassionate atmosphere where children and families feel safe and supported through the assessment process.

  • An understanding of each child’s strengths and needs, and how to effectively assist and support them.

  • To learn how to recognize and effectively cope with and manage complex challenges.

  • Recommendations that help to strengthen families, increase resilience to adversity and stress and promote healthy child development.
