The Education Transition Centre is aimed at providing short-term service for children who have become disconnected from, or unable to engage in, the regular or alternate education programming in the Surrey School District.
A primary goal of the Education Transition Centre is to prepare the child socially and emotionally for re-integration into the most appropriate school setting. Families play an integral role in the process of integration, and having their involved support will be critical.
Approximately 8 to 12 weeks of service will be the average duration for each participant, but this may vary according to the individual student needs or the availability of other school options and/or programs.
The primary focus of instruction will include: the development of the social skills necessary for transitioning into the appropriate school environment; and, academic instruction which will support the development of literacy and numeracy skills.
Referrals may be made to the Education Transition Centre by: the Ministry of Children and Family Development, an Education Services Administrator, a District Resource Counsellor, or a District Behaviour Specialist.
