 COMMUNITIES CARING FOR CHILDREN

Parenting programs that build healthy, caring children and families.

We believe that children and families thrive best in a strengths-based environment. Families are at the centre of services and supports are collaborative, culturally sensitive, individualized and flexible. We are trauma-informed and attachment based.

What we do

The Communities Caring for Children program is offered in collaboration with the Surrey Early Childhood Mental Health Collaborative. Parenting programs are offered throughout the City of Surrey during the fall, winter and spring. They are free to all who would like to attend. Group facilitators are child development professionals who guide and support parents to better understand their children’s needs; find solutions to parenting challenges; and improve parent-child relationships.

Parenting programs offered:

  • Right from the Start is for parents of children under one year of age.

  • COPEing with Toddler Behaviour is for parents of children aged one to three years.

  • Triple P (the Positive Parenting Program) is for parents of children aged three to six years.

All programs include guided instruction, video clips, problem-solving discussions and skill-building exercises. Each program runs one class per week over seven or eight weeks.

You can expect

  • An understanding of your child’s strengths and how to build on them.

  • How to recognize your child’s needs and how to effectively support them.

  • A safe, supportive atmosphere where you can build on the parenting skills you
    already have.

  • Links to other community resources and services.
